Justice Roberts will participate in a video conference with students in a “Women in the Law” class at the University of Oregon Law School on the campus in Eugene. Justice Roberts’ autobiography With Grit and By Grace, Breaking Trails in Politics and Law, A Memoir is assigned reading for the class. Justice Roberts will discuss current and past status of women as lawyers, judges and legislators, and comment on current issues and challenges for women.

October 11, 2010 : OSU Graduate Seminar
Justice Roberts will join a meeting of the graduate seminar “Systems of Oppression in Women’s Lives”. The course examines issues of sexism, racism, classism, heterosexism, antisemitism, ageism, and other forms of oppression. To look at these issues, the students read a memoir each week and analyze it in terms of theories of systems of oppression. This week, the students will have read Justice Roberts’ book With Grit and By Grace: Breaking Trails in Politics and Law, A Memoir. Justice Roberts’ comments and discussion with the students will focus on specific Oregon elements of the women’s movement, what it was like before, progress made, work still to be done, resisting sexism, and other relevant topics.

The 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in Oregon is not until 2012, but preparations are underway to insure this momentous occasion does not pass unnoticed. With your help, we are laying the groundwork to make the most of this unique opportunity to celebrate this important event in Oregon’s history and the century of action since 1912.
Justice Roberts is an active planner with this group. Please join her in being involved and in contributing.
